Our Humanitarian Efforts Around the World
Sandoz and its employees are committed to improving the lives of others worldwide. This commitment starts with the work we do at our workplace and extends far beyond, to towns and villages around the globe. In the truest sense, while we are a global company, our mindset is local.
Every Sandoz employee is given the chance to spend one day a year volunteering for a local community project during the annual Novartis Community Partnership Day. Whether organizing craft workshops for children, providing health checks or delivering food to homeless shelters, Sandoz employees selflessly donate their skills and time to make meaningful contributions to their local communities.
But our efforts do not stop there. With the help of our employees and assistance of Novartis, Sandoz has been making a world of difference in many areas of the globe.
Bangladesh: Healthy Bangladesh with Sandoz
In 2010, Sandoz in Bangladesh collaborated with the JAAGO Foundation to develop a pharmacy that could provide access to medical services for communities below the poverty line, specifically mothers and children. With the goal of creating a self-sustaining project, Sandoz and the JAAGO Foundation partnered with well-known artists to record a music CD, proceeds from which were provided to the pharmacy. The CD is marketed all over Bangladesh and it will continue to support the pharmacy for as long as it is sold.
Germany: Creating Awareness for Down Syndrome
Sandoz plays an integral part in a long-running campaign in Germany to increase understanding and awareness of Down’s syndrome. While campaign themes have varied over the years, highlighting different aspects of the syndrome, the effort aims to promote the rights of people with Down’s Syndrome and encourage their integration into society. Since 2003, the campaign has featured an annual event – the German Down’s Athletes Festival – where children and young people with the syndrome can participate and compete.
India: Improving the Lives of Women
In India, Sandoz works to fund a variety of projects with help from the charity Aarambh. Aarambh focuses on improving the lives of disadvantaged women and children in the slum districts of New Bombay through bettering access to healthcare, education and recreation. The charity aims to give children a strong educational foundation and greater self-esteem.
